The Quadrennial Summer World Sporting Event

With the Olympic games starting next week, the United States Olympic Committee has released some interesting rules regarding the use of Social Media and non-sponsor businesses.

For instance:

  • You (your business) can’t use hashtags that include Olympics trademarks such as #TeamUSA or #Rio2016.
  • Your business can’t share anything from official Olympics social media accounts. Even retweets are prohibited.
  • You must not use words that incorporate the word “Olympic,” such as Mathlympics, Aqualympics, Chicagolympics, Radiolympics, etc.
  • You can’t even wish the athletes luck.
  • Don’t post any Olympic results.
  • And definitely do not host an Olympic or Paralympic-themed contest or team-building event for employees.

Read more about the restrictions here and here. As the AdWeek article mentions, it may be frustrating for non-official sponsor brands, but it doesn’t eliminate companies from taking part in the conversation. They’ll just have to be smart about the way they do it.

World’s Best Person: June 2016

Oh boy, oh boy! We love to celebrate our staff and last month was no exception. In June, we honored new employee Melanie Quick! Melanie joined us just a couple months ago (I promise we are updating our staff page soon) and has jumped in with both feet. The staff loves her, clients love her, and we are so happy that she chose to join the M2 family. Per our custom, let’s get to know Melanie a little better.

In this photo collage, we see Melanie fighting our May 2016 WBP winner for possession of the coveted trophy, along with her patriotic WBP trophy display. She also welcomes a Pidgey to our office with open arms. She's cool like that.

Q: Describe your first day at Motivated Marketing using only a movie title.

The Avengers! Just like in the Avengers when heroes with different super powers come together to save the world, I experienced remarkable people with a variety of strengths come together to save their clients marketing. M2 – rescuing their clients branding, one marketing campaign at a time.

Do you even Pokemon?

Pokemon Go. You don’t have to play, but you should be paying attention. Pokemon Go is mobile gaming’s newest obsession and if you are not taking advantage of the opportunity, your business is missing out. We are not going to go over the basics of the game here. There are already multiple articles to help you understand how to play. Instead, we will give you some tips on how to leverage Pokemon Go into a marketing opportunity for your brand/business.

First things first, find out if there is a PokeStop or Gym near your business location. (If you haven’t already checked the app, the swarms of trainers in and around your business may have already clued you in.) If you are one of the lucky businesses “on the map,” there are TONS of ways to capitalize.

Our Favorite “Dadvertising” Moments

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there! Today, we are hearing from TJ, Ben, and Adam (aka “Daddy” to the little people that live in their homes) about their favorite “dadvertising” moments.

TJ Sack – Dad of 2 – Agency Principal

Molly and Katelyn are sugar and spice.

Molly and Katelyn are sugar and spice.

With two daughters, this one hit home to me. I hope I am able to protect and be a part of my daughters’ lives as they continue to grow up. It also makes me sad because I do not want my girls to grow up. Selfishly, I want them to stay my little angels.

Worlds Best Person: May 2016

As we close out another month of celebrating our World’s Best Person, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge May’s Winner: Jillian Inniss. Each month, M2 staff members have the opportunity to nominate co-workers that have exemplified excellence. The winner of World’s Best Person (of the month) gets a coveted trophy for display, bragging rights, and $50! The nominations are consistently great, but this month had some of the best in the history of the award.

Jillian is in charge of our agency snack drawer and she has taken that responsibility to the NEXT LEVEL. We usually don’t publish any of the nominations – but this one was too good not to share.

World’s Best Person: April 2016

As his month of World’s Best Person comes to an end, we celebrate Jose Amaya – Our April World’s Best Person (of the month). Jose has been a mainstay nominee and could, frankly, win every month coasting on his talent alone. Lucky for us, he’s not a one-trick pony. Jose is a master of motion graphics, a pro at post-production, a wizard of video and sound & probably one of the hardest working people you’ve ever met.

Let’s celebrate his win – M2 style – by pestering him with obnoxious questions.

Cheers Mama!

This weekend, we honor our moms and moms-to-be. Last year, we talked about our favorite “momvertising” moments. This year, the moms of M2 have put together our best tidbits of advice and links to our favorite “mommy must have” products.

JIllian Inniss – Mom of 4 – Billing Coordinator

Could they BE any cuter?

Could they BE any cuter?

Advice: Relax. Parenting is a learning experience for everyone. Everything is a stage, which means that the hard parts of mommyhood pass, but so do the good parts. Enjoy everything, one day you will miss the midnight cuddles. Also, a maid makes for an excellent afternoon houseguest.

World’s Best Person: March 2016

It’s time to honor our March 2016 WBP Award winner by annoying them with asinine questions! Our March winner has been burning the candle at both ends trying to satisfy the digital media appetite of M2’s clients. His hard work is complimented by his passion and knowledge about digital marketing solutions. Mike Pendleton is our March WBP and very deserving of the honor. Let’s get to know him better!

Car Buying Process Increasingly Digital

Last month (March 2016), Google released a case study about the car buying process and how crucial the digital world is to that journey. During the case study, Google partnered with Luth Research to follow Stacy, a 32 year old mother of two with a baby on the way. Stacy had over 900 digital interactions during her 3 month journey. 71% of those interactions were on a mobile device. Google even revealed that 1 in 2 of her automotive searches happen on mobile. As we know, the car-buying journey is long and more hard-fought than ever. In fact, 6 out of 10 car shoppers have no idea what vehicle they are seeking when they start their search!
